How Combined Heat & Power Works

In a combined heat and power (CHP) or cogeneration plant, one source of energy is used to generate two forms of energy. For example, natural gas can fuel a gas turbine-generator set that produces electricity. Waste heat is captured and used for heating purposes or to heat water for district heating.
