Guelph's Community Energy Initiative calls for the implementation of 1,000 solar roofs.
Guelph Hydro's subsidiary company, Envida Community Energy Inc., is supporting this effort by leasing the rooftops of municipal, industrial, commercial and institutional buildings for solar panel installations.
In early 2011, Envida Community Energy Inc. submitted applications to the Ontario Power Authority for 1.5 megawatts of rooftop solar installations on buildings belonging to the municipality and private companies.
